Helleborus Niger produces large bowl shaped flowers in brilliant white against dark green leathery leaves. This cottage garden plant is highly prized as it flowers throughout the darkest winter months, from December-March. A great flower to have ina winter border, where it can be a useful addition to a winter bouquet. Classed as semi-evergreen as the leaves tend to die back after flowering in the first year after planting.

- Soil Type Moist, but well drained soil.
- Pruning Remove damaged foliage as required in late winter.
They can be grown in groups to help create a very effective cluster of winter flowering plants. Once planted they should not be disturbed. Although Helleborus are evergreen they often lose their foliage in the first year. Upon arrival plant out straight away in fertile, well drained and moist soil. You can plant them at 45cm apart, in either full sun or in partial shade. If potting up, use John Innes Compost.
