  • Hawthorn Hedging, also known as Crataegus monogyna, is an incredibly popular variety of British Native Hedge, typically grown as barrier hedging but also as an attractive specimen tree for the garden. This versatile deciduous shrub is renowned for its robust, hardy nature, making it a particularly effective choice of hedging in exposed or coastal environments, where it can withstand harsh winds and temperatures. Its thick and thorny branches make Crataegus Monogyna an excellent security barrier, whilst its delicate and highly fragrant spring-time blooms flower from May to June and are highly attractive to bees and insects. These are replaced later in the year by red berries which are sure to tempt a multitude of hungry birds to the garden during the autumn months. This wonderful hedging will reach a height of 4m but can be pruned back to become more manageable.
