Gourds Turks Turban produces high yield of fruits that are dark orange with green markings. This fruit is also known as Mexican Hat, and is perfect for baking or as an ornament in early autumn. These plants have a climbing habit, perfect for growing against stakes or trellises. Sow seeds inside from March to May or directly outside from April to May for a harvest in July to October.

Soak seeds overnight before planting. Ensure they're kept somewhere warm after sowing 4 weeks prior to the last frost. When the seedlings reach 5-7cm, gradually acclimatise them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Pop the plants in a warm sheltered position with good drainage, preferably somewhere that gives them support as they grow. Plant out at least 60cm apart. They will start slow but once they establish, the warm weather will accelerate their growth. Keep the soil moist throughout the summer and stop watering in autumn as fruits mature.
