Listed on the RHS Plants for Pollinators, Berberis Red Pillar produces dark red/purple foliage throughout spring and summer, which turns red in autumn. The red-tinged, pale yellow flowers are then followed by small red berries throughout the autumn, providing a vital food source for birds as winter progresses. As with some other Berberis varieties, Red Pillar grows initially in a columnar form to approximately 1m in height. As the plant ages, it also spreads to a similar distance, making this a good solution for a deciduous hedge.
